SBEF Grant Awards

Spring Branch Education Foundation announces 2020 grants

$150,090 awarded to projects for SBISD students

At its May 21 Board meeting, Spring Branch Education Foundation (SBEF) approved $150,090 in grants to fund 28 innovative education-enhancing projects throughout Spring Branch Independent School District.

Each year, the Foundation calls for grant applications, up to $5,000 each, from any of its 46 school campuses. District-wide and departmental projects are eligible for larger grants. Faculty members and volunteers are encouraged to apply.

“This year has been challenging for our students and staff, so it was rewarding to see such innovative projects represented in the grants applications,” said Donnie Roseman, a member of the SBEF Board of Directors and chair of the Program and Assessment Committee. “Each of our community donors makes these grants possible.”

“We’re especially excited about two of our district grants that support the ReadSBISD initiative,” said Cece Thompson, SBEF executive director. “In addition to making eBooks available to students for summer reading, in the fall, we will provide journals for every elementary student to support comprehension and writing.”

SBEF Scholarship Awards

Spring Branch Education Foundation awards 122 scholarships

Spring Branch ISD graduates receive $174,900

Spring Branch Education Foundation (SBEF) awarded 122 scholarships to Spring Branch Independent School District seniors—a total of $174,900.

“The Foundation’s scholarship committee members are always impressed with the stories reflected in the scholarship applications we receive,” said Cece Thompson, SBEF executive director. “Many of our recipients will be the first in their families to attend college or a career-training program.

“We take a holistic approach to awarding scholarships. We look at personal qualities, school and community involvement, family life and academics. Our honorees include students up and down class rankings, campus and community volunteers and English language learners. These scholarships are a vote of confidence as graduates take their next educational step.”

Throughout the school year, Spring Branch ISD staff members contribute to the SBEF Employee Campaign, funding scholarships for SBISD graduates who are children of district employees. In August 2019, employees were asked to contribute to SBEF’s 2019-20 Employee Campaign scholarship fund. They eagerly responded.

“The response was so great we awarded a $1,250 scholarship to 36 graduates. We’re honored to recognize SBISD employees and their children,” Thompson said.
